And this is how he did it . . .

From six starts in point-to-points in 2006 Sam never finsihed out of the frame. His season started early at Whitwick Manor where he finished a gallant second behind Un Jour A Vassy. He went on to score at the Ross Harriers meeting at Garnons before returning there two weeks later to finish third in a competitive heat won by Premium First.

Brampton Bryan saw him touched off by Four Opinions who has recently made promising in roads under rules. Sam went on to trounce the field at Cold Harbour when landing the feature Crudwell Cup. Sam looked like the winner of the Confined Championship at Bredwardine but bad luck in running on the final bend put paid to his chances - not to mention the weight and age he was giving away!

The Horse and Hound couldn’t have been any closer to the truth at Cold Harbour on Sunday 30th April when Samuel Wilderspin romped home to land the Crudwell Cup.

Now 14 years young, Samuel Wilderspin won the feature event at the Radnor & West's inaugural two-day Festival in emphatic style, not even coming off the bridle. Julian Pritchard steered home the winner whose official winning margin totalled 7 lengths, although value for at least double that.

The Crudwell Cup was Sam’s second victory of the season for first season trainer Kerry Lee, having already landed the spoils in the Confined race at the Ross Harriers meeting at Garnons in early March.
